Some of us need new families

[I hope this post isn't a bummer, because I really want this blog to be a positive space. I just think a positive space should still explore heavy topics.]

A principle is nothing but a thought when reality doesn't reflect it. Some of us uphold a principle so much, we tell people to ignore their realities. In principle, family is everything. In actuality, we didn't choose who we came into this world with, and that can suck.

At first, I felt hypocritical talking like this while being critical of the rampant individualism present in my generation. We definitely cut people off WAY too much, myself included. That being said, I attribute the collective issue of poor relationships to lack of social welfare, economies that make creating community impractical, and algorithms designated to force a vision of the world through your screen since you can't afford to see it for yourself.

I think it's best not to assume a collective issue reflects your personal one. Sometimes, we suck at conflict resolution and expect people to read our minds. Other times, we really are better off without certain people. It's up to us to figure out which is which.
